Blue Sapphire

Blue Sapphires were always highly desired. Many Royal Houses had either a blue or red as a favourite colour, so Sapphire and Ruby can be seen in many royal jewels and other ornaments. The Mellerio Sapphire Tiara of Duch Royal House is a beautiful example of Sapphire centered jewel, there are also two great sapphires set in the English State Crown. Historical sources include legends such as Kashmir, that produced legendary Kashmir Blue Sapphires at the end of the 19th century. Many other places produced or produce sapphires today: Sri Lanka (Ceylon), Madagascar, Burma, Australia, to name just some of them. Very small portion of sapphires has an exceptional blue colour and none treatments at all. Traditionally most of them is heated to improve the colour or clarity. This practice has a centuries old tradition and is not as invasive as newer treatments, it is generally accepted as a norm, unheated stones command a premium. Please enjoy this selection of Blue Sapphires and do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries.
